Sri Lanka in brief

Sri Lanka is a land of variety. No other country can boast of such a diversity of natural landscapes, from breathtaking mountains and foaming waterfalls to sluggish rivers, dense forests and golden beaches with blue lagoons and waving palms along the coastline. And, of course, her friendly people are known for their hospitality through the centuries.

The government of Sri Lanka is presently engaged in protracted conflict with a minority group within the Tamil community. While the conflict has had a severe impact on the social, political and economic affairs of the country, it should be noted that it is contained to the northern areas and that the Government continues to make intense efforts to obtain a negotiated solution to the problem.

The so called war zones are highly restricted under the control of the security forces and no tourists are allowed to enter them.
